Test 1: Instrument Cluster Inoperative
- If instrument cluster diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If instrument cluster diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform instrument cluster diagnostic system check. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK
under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- If fault still exists, go to next step. If fault does not still exist, check for poor connections and intermittent conditions.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using a test light connected to ground, backprobe at terminal A1 (Orange wire) at instrument cluster harness connector. See Fig 1
. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 8
.
- Turn ignition off. Using a test light connected to positive battery voltage, backprobe at terminals A4 and B10 (Black/White wires) at instrument cluster harness connector. If test light illuminates at both terminals, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate at both terminals, go to step 7
.
- Turn ignition on. Using a test light connected to ground, backprobe at terminal B9 (Purple wire) at instrument cluster harness connector. If test light illuminates, go to step 9
. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step.
- Repair open or short to ground in Purple wire between instrument cluster and left instrument panel junction block. After repairs, go to step 11
.
- Repair open in appropriate Black/White wire between instrument cluster and ground G202. After repairs, go to step 11
.
- Repair open or short to ground in Orange wire between instrument cluster and left instrument panel junction block. After repairs, go to step 11
.
- Check for an open or short to ground in Orange wire between Body Control Module (BCM) and left instrument panel junction block. See POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. If problem exists, repair as necessary and go to step 11
. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
- Replace instrument cluster. After repairs, go to step 11
.
- Connect all disconnect components. Check system for proper operation. If system operates properly, test is complete. If system does not operate properly, go to step 3
.
