Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check

  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). If scan tool does not power up, repair scan tool or DLC connector concern. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - MALIBU article. If scan tool powers up, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). If scan tool communicates, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate, repair communications concern. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - MALIBU article.
  3. Using scan tool, retrieve Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from all modules. If any DTCs exist, go to next step. If no DTCs exist, repair by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table under SYSTEM TESTS.
  4. If scan tool displays any DTCs that begin with "U", repair communications concern. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - MALIBU article. If any Body Control Module (BCM) DTCs exist, see BODY CONTROL MODULES - MALIBU article. If any PCM DTCs exist, see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If DTC B1000 is retrieved from IPC, go to DTC B1001: INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER MALFUNCTION  under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
