Audible Warnings System Check
- Place key in ignition switch. Leave ignition switch in LOCK position. Open driver-side door. Chime sound (one pulse per second) when driver-side door is open. Close driver-side door while inside vehicle. Chime does not sound when driver-side door is closed. If operation is as specified, go to next step. If operation is not as specified, diagnose by symptom. See SYSTEM TESTS .
- Remove key from ignition switch. Turn headlights or parking lights on. Turn headlight switch to OFF position. Chime sounds (one pulse per 0.5 second) when headlight switch is in PARK position or HEAD position. If operation is as specified, go to next step. If operation is not as specified, diagnose by symptom. See SYSTEM TESTS .
- Close all vehicle doors. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Turn parking lights or headlights on. Turn headlight switch to OFF position. Chime should sound with parking lights or headlights on. If operation is as specified, go to next step. If operation is not as specified, diagnose by symptom. See SYSTEM TESTS .
- Close driver-side door. Fasten driver-side seat belt. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Open driver-side door. Chime should not sound. If operation is as specified, go to next step. If operation is not as specified, diagnose by symptom. See SYSTEM TESTS .
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Close driver-side door. Unfasten (release) driver-side seat belt. Chime should sound for 4-8 seconds and fasten seat belt indicator illuminates. Chime sound should stop if driver-side seat belt is fastened within 4-8 seconds. Fasten seat belt indicator should turn off when driver-side seat belt is fastened.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Close driver-side door. Fasten driver-side seat belt. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Chime should not sound. Fasten seat belt indicator should not illuminate. If operation is as specified, system is okay. If operation is not as specified, diagnose by symptom. See SYSTEM TESTS .
