Test H: Fasten Safety Belt Indicator & Chime Inoperative

  1. If instrument cluster system check has been performed, go to next step. If instrument cluster system check has not been performed, see INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SYSTEM CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect seat belt, ignition key and lights on alarm 8-pin harness connector. Seat belt, ignition key and lights on alarm is located behind instrument panel, on right side of air conditioning module. Using a fused jumper wire (3-amp), connect battery voltage to seat belt, ignition key and lights on alarm harness connector terminal C2 (Yellow wire). If fasten seat belt indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If fasten seat belt indicator illuminates, go to step  5 .
  3. Remove and disconnect instrument cluster 32-pin harness connector. Measure resistance in Yellow wire between seat belt, ignition key and lights on alarm harness connector terminal C2 and instrument cluster harness connector terminal D10. See Figure and Fig 1 . If resistance is less than 2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 2 ohms or more, go to step  6 .
  4. Measure resistance between ground and seat belt, ignition key and lights on alarm harness connector terminal C2 (Yellow wire). See Fig 1 . If resistance is infinite, go to step  7 . If resistance is not infinite, go to step  8 .
  5. Inspect for poor connection at seat belt, ignition key and lights on alarm harness connector. If seat belt, ignition key and lights on alarm harness connector is okay, replace seat belt, ignition key and lights on alarm. After repairs, go to step  9 .
  6. Repair open in Yellow wire between instrument cluster and seat belt, ignition key and lights on alarm. After repairs, go to step  9 .
  7. Repair concern within instrument cluster. After repairs, go to step  9 .
  8. Repair short to ground in Yellow wire between instrument cluster and seat belt, ignition key and lights on alarm. After repairs, go to next step.
  9. Ensure ignition switch is in LOCK position. Install components that were removed. Reconnect all disconnected harness connectors and perform instrument cluster system check. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SYSTEM CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
