DTC B0162: Temperature Sensor Circuit Open: Testing

  1. If driver information center diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If driver information center diagnostic system check was not performed, go to DRIVER INFORMATION SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. If DIC displays OC, go to next step. If OC is not displayed, problem is intermittent. Check for poor harness connections or connector damage. Also check for faulty wiring. Repair wiring and/or connections as necessary. After repair check system for normal operation.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position, Disconnect ambient air temperature gauge sensor harness connector. Connect 3-amp fused jumper wire between ground and ambient air temperature gauge sensor harness connector terminal "A". Turn ignition switch to ON position. If DIC does not display SC, go to next step. If DIC displays SC, go to step  5.
  4. Check Light Green/Black wire between ambient air temperature gauge sensor harness connector terminal "A" and DIC harness connector terminal No. 10 for open, high resistance or short to voltage. Repair Light Green/Black wire as necessary. After repair, check system for normal operation. If wire is okay, go to step  7.
  5. Check Black/White wire between ambient air temperature gauge sensor harness connector terminal "B" and ground for high resistance or open. Repair Black/White wire as necessary. After repair, check system for normal operation. If wire is okay, go to next step.
  6. Check for poor connection or connector damage at ambient air temperature gauge sensor harness connector. Repair or replace as necessary. After repair, check system for normal operation. If no problem is found, go to step  8.
  7. Check for poor connection or connector damage at DIC connector. Repair or replace as necessary. After repair, check system for normal operation. If no problem is found, go to step  9.
  8. Replace ambient air temperature gauge sensor. After repair, check system for normal operation.
  9. Replace DIC. See DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER (DIC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, check system for normal operation and go to next step.
  10. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Operate vehicle normally to verify repair. Check for stored DTCs. If DTC B0162 has reset, return to step  2. If DTC is not reset, system is okay.
