Parking Brake (Drum)

  1. Adjust rear brake shoes. See REAR BRAKE SHOES . Apply parking brake to 10 clicks (ratchets) and release. Repeat 5 times.
  2. To ensure parking brake pedal is fully released, turn ignition on. BRAKE indicator light will illuminate during bulb test, and go off. If light goes off, go to next step. If light does not go off, operate pedal release lever on parking brake assembly and pull front parking brake cable downward. This should fully release pedal.
  3. Raise and support vehicle. Turn equalizer adjuster nut, while spinning both rear wheels, until either wheel drags. Stop adjusting and back off equalizer adjuster nut one full turn.
  4. Apply parking brake to 4 clicks. Wheels should be able to be rotated, by hand, in forward direction and drag or not turn in reverse direction. Release parking brake. Ensure rear wheels rotate freely. Lower vehicle.
