Test 8: Oil Pressure Gauge Inaccurate/Inoperative: Gasoline

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect fuel pump/oil pressure switch/sender harness connector. Connect one lead of Gauge Tester (J-33431-B) to terminal "A" (Tan wire) at fuel pump/oil pressure switch/sender harness connector. See Figure. Connect other lead to ground. Turn ignition on. Set resistance dial on tester to zero ohms, then to 90 ohms. Oil pressure gauge should indicate low at zero ohms and high at 90 ohms. If oil pressure gauge responds as specified, go to next step. If oil pressure gauge does not respond as specified, go to step  3.
  2. Replace fuel pump/oil pressure switch/sender.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector. Check continuity of Tan wire between terminal "A" at fuel pump/oil pressure switch/sender harness connector and terminal No. 15 at instrument cluster harness connector. See Figure and Figure . If continuity exists, go to step  5. If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
  4. Repair open in Tan wire between engine coolant temperature sender and instrument cluster.
  5. Replace instrument cluster.
