Test 8: Oil Pressure Gauge Inaccurate/Inoperative: Diesel

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect fuel pump/oil pressure switch/sender harness connector. Connect one lead of Gauge Tester (J-33431-B) to terminal "A" (Tan wire) at fuel pump/oil pressure switch/sender harness connector. See Figure. Connect other lead to ground. Turn ignition on. Set resistance dial on tester to zero ohms, then to 88 ohms. Oil pressure gauge should indicate zero psi at zero ohms and 80 psi at 88 ohms. If oil pressure gauge responds as specified, go to next step. If oil pressure gauge does not respond as specified, go to step  3.
  2. Replace fuel pump/oil pressure switch/sender.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector. Using a 10-amp fused jumper wire, connect positive battery voltage to terminal No. 22 at instrument cluster (component side). See Figure. Connect one lead of Gauge Tester (J-33431-B) to terminal No. 15 (Tan wire) at instrument cluster (component side). Connect other lead to ground. Set resistance dial on tester to zero ohms, then to 88 ohms. Oil pressure gauge should indicate zero psi at zero ohms and 80 psi at 88 ohms. If oil pressure gauge responds as specified, go to next step. If oil pressure gauge does not respond as specified, go to step  5.
  4. Repair open or short in Tan wire between engine coolant temperature sender and instrument cluster.
  5. Replace instrument cluster.
