Vacuum Brake Booster: Removal

  1. Apply the parking brake.
  2. Remove and support the master cylinder with lines attached far enough from the vacuum booster to allow access. See MASTER CYLINDER .
  3. Disconnect the check valve from the vacuum booster. See VACUUM BRAKE BOOSTER CHECK VALVE AND/OR HOSE .
  4. Remove the left closeout/insulator panel.
  5. Remove the pushrod retainer from the brake pedal pin.
  6. Remove the stoplight switch and the pushrod from the brake pedal pin.
  7. Remove the steering column support bracket. See appropriate STEERING COLUMN article in STEERING.
  8. Remove the vacuum booster mounting nuts.
  9. Remove the vacuum booster assembly and gasket. See Figure.
