Test 14: Driver Information Center Compass Inaccurate Or Cal Displayed
- Road test vehicle and observe speedometer. If speedometer operates properly, go to next step. If speedometer does not operate properly, go to TEST 7: SPEEDOMETER INACCURATE/INOPERATIVE .
- Check for open in Dark Green wire between terminal "C" at compass/temperature display module harness connector and terminal No. 4 at Vehicle Control Module (VCM) harness connector. See Figure and Figure . If Dark Green wire is okay, go to next step. If Dark Green wire is open, go to step 4 .
- Place Driver Information Center (DIC) compass in calibration mode. To calibrate compass, press and hold MODE and US/MET buttons simultaneously while in COMP/TEMP mode. After about 10 seconds, compass will display "C" (or CAL). Release buttons. Find a level surface free of buildings, trees, underground cables, train tracks and other vehicles. Drive vehicle in circles, keeping steering wheel in one steady position, at a speed of less than 5 MPH until the "C" (or CAL) indicator turns off. This could take 3 complete circles to perform. When calibration is complete, display will return to compass reading. Check operation of compass. If compass does not operate properly, go to step 5 . If compass operates properly, go to step 6 .
- Repair open in Dark Green wire. After repairs, go to step 6 .
- Replace compass/temperature display module. See COMPASS/TEMPERATURE DISPLAY MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
- Connect all disconnected components. Check system for proper operation. If system operates properly, test is complete. If system does not operate properly, go to step 1 .
