Test 12: Driver Information Center Temperature Display Always Reads One Value

NOTE: Outside ambient air temperature sensor is also referred to as ambient air temperature sensor.
  1. Road test vehicle and observe speedometer. If speedometer operates properly, go to next step. If speedometer does not operate properly, go to TEST 7: SPEEDOMETER INACCURATE/INOPERATIVE  .
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ambient air temperature sensor 2-pin connector. Measure resistance between ambient air temperature sensor terminals at specified temperature. See AMBIENT AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE  table. If resistance is not as specified, go to next step. If resistance is as specified, go to step  4 .
    AMBIENT AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE

    Temperature °F (°C) k/Ohms
    0 (18) 79.83-93.88
    32 (0) 30.50-35.10
    77 (25) 9.46-10.57
  3. Replace ambient air temperature sensor. See AMBIENT AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step  7 .
  4. Check for poor connections at ambient air temperature sensor connector. Repair as necessary and go to step  7 . If connector is okay, go to next step.
  5. Check for open in Dark Green wire between terminal "C" at compass/temperature display module harness connector and terminal No. 4 at Vehicle Control Module (VCM) harness connector. See Figure and Figure . Repair wiring as necessary. After repairs, go to step  7 . If Dark Green wire is okay, go to next step.
  6. Replace compass/temperature display module. See COMPASS/TEMPERATURE DISPLAY MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
  7. Connect all disconnected components. Check system for proper operation. If system operates properly, test is complete. If system does not operate properly, go to step  1 .
