Test 11: Driver Information Center Temperature Display Always Reads OC

NOTE: Outside ambient air temperature sensor is also referred to as ambient air temperature sensor.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ambient air temperature sensor 2-pin connector. Connect a fused jumper wire between Light Green/Black wire and Black wire at ambient air temperature sensor connector. Turn ignition on. Observe Driver Information Center (DIC) display. If display does not indicate SC, disconnect jumper wire and go to next step. If display indicates SC, go to step  3 .
  2. Turn ignition off. Connect a fused jumper wire between ground and Light Green/Black wire at ambient air temperature sensor connector. Observe DIC display. If display does not indicate SC, go to step  6 . If display indicates SC, go to step  5 .
  3. Check for poor connections at ambient air temperature sensor connector. Repair connector as necessary and go to step  9 . If connector is okay, go to next step.
  4. Replace ambient air temperature sensor. See AMBIENT AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step  9 .
  5. Repair open in Black wire between ambient air temperature sensor and ground connection. Ground is located at front of engine, near thermostat housing. See OVERHEAD CONSOLE - ASTRO & SAFARI article. After repairs, go to  9 .
  6. Connect one end of a fused jumper wire to ground. Backprobing, connect other end of jumper wire to terminal "D" (Light Green/Black wire) at compass/temperature display module harness connector. See Figure . Observe DIC display. If display does not indicate SC, go to next step. If display indicates SC, go to step  8 .
  7. Repair open in Light Green/Black wire between compass/temperature display module and ambient temperature sensor. After repairs, go to step  9 .
  8. Replace compass/temperature display module. See COMPASS/TEMPERATURE DISPLAY MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
  9. Connect all disconnected components. Check system for proper operation. If system operates properly, test is complete. If system does not operate properly, go to step  1 .
