Rear Caliper (Disc Brakes - C & K Series): Installation
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 30 other vehicles, including the 1998 Pontiac Trans Sport, 1998 Oldsmobile Silhouette, 1998 Oldsmobile Bravada, 1998 GMC Yukon, and 1998 GMC Suburban. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Lubricate caliper and anchor plate sliding surfaces with Aeroshell Grade 5 lubricant or equivalent.
- Install caliper assembly. Install spring and support key. Use a brass punch and hammer to drive the support key in place. See Fig 4.NOTE: Make sure the brake hose is not twisted or kinked after installation. Damage to the hose could result.
- Install bolt. The boss on the bolt must fit into the circular cutout in the key. Tighten the bolt to 15 ft. lbs. (20 N.m).
- Install brake hose. Tighten brake hose to 33 ft. lbs. (45 N.m). Bleed system.
WARNING:
Before moving the vehicle, pump the brake pedal several times to make sure pedal is firm. Do not move the vehicle until a firm pedal is obtained. Check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder after pumping the brakes.
