Shift Selector Indicator Malfunctioning
- If vehicle has been checked for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), go to next step. If vehicle has not been checked for DTCs, go to appropriate
SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
- If no shift selector indicators illuminate properly, go to next step. If any shift selector indicators illuminate properly, go to step 7
.
- Check PRNDL ELEC fuse. If fuse is faulty, go to next step. If fuse is okay, go to step 5
.
- Repair short to ground in circuit No. 1020 (Pink wire) between instrument cluster connector C1, terminal "K" and fuse block. Replace fuse and recheck system operation.
- Disconnect instrument cluster Natural 18-pin connector C1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using DVOM, check voltage between instrument cluster harness connector C1, terminal "K" (Pink wire) and ground. If reading is not 9-14 volts, go to next step. If reading is 9-14 volts, go to step 7

- Repair poor connection or open in circuit No. 1020 (Pink wire) between instrument cluster connector C1, terminal "K" and fuse block. Recheck system operation.
- Disconnect instrument panel connectors C1 and C2. Turn ignition switch on. While moving shift lever from PARK to L, check voltage between ground and following circuits:
- Circuit 771, connector C1 terminal "J" (Black/White wire).
- Circuit 772, connector C1 terminal "C" (Yellow wire).
- Circuit 774, connector C1 terminal "D" (White wire).
- Circuit 773, connector C2 terminal "M" (Gray wire).
Voltage should switch from low to high at each terminal at some point in shifter range. If voltage switches at every terminal, go to next step. If voltage does not switch at every terminal, go to step 9
.
- Replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
- Repair wiring in affected circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS
. Recheck system.
