PRNDL Display Does Not Operate Properly With No Loss Of Serial Data

Using scan tool, monitor normal mode communication between Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and instrument cluster. If GEAR POSITION display does not match PRNDL, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation. If GEAR POSITION display matches PRNDL, locate and repair problem in PCM system. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Recheck system operation.
