Coolant Temperature Gauge Accuracy Test
- Disconnect Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor connector. Using Instrument Panel Tester (J-33431), connect Red lead to ECT sensor harness connector terminal "A" (Dark Green wire) and connect remaining lead to ground.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position (engine off). Adjust gauge tester resistance dials first to 1400 ohms, then to 55 ohms. Temperature gauge should indicate cold, then hot. If temperature gauge operates as specified, replace ECT sensor. If temperature gauge does not operate as specified, go to next step.
- Check for poor connection or high resistance in Dark Green wire between ECT sensor and instrument cluster. Repair as necessary. If circuit is okay, repair or replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
