Speedometer & Odometer Do Not Operate

  1. Check VSS and Vehicle Control Module (VCM) for DTCs. If DTCs exist, see SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - GASOLINE article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If no VSS and VCM DTCs exist, turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument cluster connector and VCM Black 24-pin connector. Disconnect compass and temperature display module (if equipped). Connect a self-powered test light between instrument cluster connector terminal B14 (Dark Green wire) and ground. See Figure . If test light does not come on, go to next step. If test light comes on, repair short to ground in Dark Green wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  2. Connect self-powered test light between instrument cluster connector terminal B14 (Dark Green wire) and VCM Black 24-pin connector, terminal No. 4 (Dark Green wire). If test light comes on, replace instrument cluster. If test light does not come on, repair open circuit in Dark Green wire between VCM and IPC.
