Gauge Is Inaccurate
- Disconnect fuel tank sending unit connector. Turn ignition on. Connect one Red lead of Instrument Panel Tester (J-33431) to terminal "B" (Purple/White wire) of sending unit harness connector, and connect other Red lead to ground. Adjust tester dial to 40 ohms, then 250 ohms. If gauge indicates "E" with dial at 40 ohms, and "F" with dial at 250 ohms, replace sending unit. If gauge does not indicate as specified, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Blue VCM connector. Turn ignition on. Connect one Red wire lead of Instrument Panel Tester (J-33431) to terminal No. 9 (Purple wire) of VCM harness connector, and connect other Red lead to ground. Adjust tester dial to zero ohms, then 90 ohms. If gauge indicates "E" with dial at zero ohms, and "F" with dial at 90 ohms, replace VCM. If gauge does not indicate as specified, check Purple wire resistance. Repair as necessary. If Purple wire is okay, replace fuel gauge.
