Wheel Stud / Lug Nut: Service and Repair





REMOVAL PROCEDURE

^ Tools Required:
- J 6627-A Wheel Bolt Remover

Notice: Do not hammer on brake drum as damage to the bearing could result.

1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
2. Remove the tire and the wheel.
3. Remove the rear brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement in Drum Brakes.
4. Use J 6627-A in order to remove the wheel bolt. Press the stud from the seat in its housing.





INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install a new stud from the back side of the hub.
2. Install four flat washers on the stud.
3. Install the wheel nut with the flat side toward the washers.
4. Tighten the nut until the stud head is properly seated in the hub flange.
5. Remove the wheel nut and the washers.
6. Install the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement in Drum Brakes.
7. Install the tire and the wheel.
8. Lower the vehicle.
