Ignition Lock Cylinder, Lower Shroud, Upper Shroud, Shift Lever Seal

^ Tools Required:
- J 41352 Modular Column Holding Fixture

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Negative (-) battery cable.
2. Disable the SIR system; refer to "DISABLING THE SIR SYSTEM".
3. Inter steering shaft assembly (65) from shaft assembly (37).
^ Remove pinch bolt (66).

NOTICE: Once steering column is removed from vehicle, the column is extremely susceptible to damage.





4. Lower or remove steering column from vehicle.
^ Secure steering column to modular colt holding fixture J 41352.
^ Place holding fixture into vise.





Inspect
^ Steering shaft assembly for accident damage.

5. Tilt lever.
6. Two pan head tapping screws (13) from lower shroud (28).
7. Lower shroud (28).
^ Tilt shroud (28) down and slide back to disengage locking tabs.
8. Two torx head screws (14) from upper shroud (10).
9. Remove steering column lock cylinder set.





10. Remove upper shroud (10).
11. Shift lever.
12. Shift lever seal (16).





13. Shroud protector (27) from lower shroud (28).

INSTALL OR CONNECT

NOTICE: Refer to the fastener NOTICE in Service Precautions. Failure to do so may result in component damage or malfunction of steering column.

1. Shift lever seal (16).
2. Shift lever.
3. Shroud protector (27) to lower shroud (28).
4. Move shift lever seal (16) and multifunction lever seal to ease in installation of upper and lower shrouds.
5. Install steering column lock cylinder set.
6. Install upper shroud (10).
7. Two torx head screws (14) to upper shroud (10).
^ Tighten screws (14) to 1.5 Nm (13 lb in).

8. Lower shroud (28).
^ Ensure that slots on lower shroud (28) engage with tabs on upper shroud (10).
^ Tilt lower shroud up and snap shrouds together.
9. Two pan head tapping screws (13) to lower shroud (28).
^ Tighten screws (13) to 7 Nm (62 lb in).

10. Shift lever seal (16) and multifunction lever seal into position.
11. Tilt lever.
12. Raise or install steering column to vehicle.
13. Inter steering shaft assembly (65) to lower shaft assembly (37).
^ Tighten pinch bolt (66) to 47 Nm (35 lb ft).

14. If all service operations are completed, enable the SIR system; refer to "ENABLING THE SIR SYSTEM".
15. Negative (-) battery cable.
