Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

^ TOOLS REQUIRED
- 24420-B Crankshaft Balancer Remover

NOTICE: The inertial weight section of the crankshaft balancer is assembled to the hub with a rubber type material. The correct installation procedures (with the proper tool) must be followed or movement of the inertial weight section of the hub will destroy the tuning of the crankshaft balancer.





1. Remove the drive belt.
2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
3. Remove the right front tire and wheel.
4. Remove the right engine splash shield.
5. Install a utility stand beneath the frame right side rail in order to support the frame/powertrain.
6. Remove the two frame RIGHT side bolts.
7. Use the utility stand to lower the frame in order to provide access for the J 24420-B.
8. Remove the crankshaft balancer bolt and the washer.





9. Use the J 24420-B in order to remove the crankshaft balancer.
10. Clean and inspect the crankshaft balancer.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

^ TOOLS REQUIRED
- 29113Crankshaft Balancer Installer





1. Apply sealant to the keyway of the balancer. Use sealant.
2. Install the crankshaft balancer. Use the J 29113.
3. Remove the J 29113.





4. Install the crankshaft balancer washer and the bolt.
^ Tighten the crankshaft balancer bolt to 103 Nm (76 ft. lbs.).

5. Use the utility stand in order to raise the frame.
6. Install NEW frame right side bolts.
7. Install the right engine splash shield.
8. Install the right front tire and wheel.
9. Lower the vehicle.
10. Install the drive belt.
