Service Engine Soon Indicator Stays On Or Flashes

  1. If vehicle has been checked for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), go to next step. If vehicle has not been checked for DTCs, go to TESTS W/CODES article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE section.
  2. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Clear 80-pin connector C2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If SERVICE ENGINE SOON indicator illuminates, go to next step. If SERVICE ENGINE SOON indicator does not illuminate, go to TESTS W/CODES article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE section.
  3. Check for short to ground in circuit No. 419 (Brown/White wire) between PCM connector C2, underhood accessory wiring junction block and instrument cluster Natural 18-pin connector C1. Repair as necessary and recheck system operation. If circuit is okay, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
