Coolant Temperature Warning Indicator Malfunctioning (Coolant Gauge Operates Properly)

  1. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Blue 80-pin connector C1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If coolant temperature warning indicator illuminates, go to next step. If coolant temperature warning indicator does not illuminate, go to step 3).
  2. Repair short to ground in circuit No. 35 (Dark Green wire) between PCM connector C1, underhood accessory wiring junction block and instrument cluster connector C1, terminal "E". Recheck system operation.
  3. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between PCM harness connector C1, terminal No. 75 (Dark Green wire) and ground. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If coolant temperature warning indicator illuminates, go to next step. If coolant temperature warning indicator does not illuminate, go to step 5).
  4. Replace PCM. See REMOVE/INSTALL/OVERHAUL article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE section. Recheck system operation.
  5. Check for poor connection or open in circuit No. 35 (Dark Green wire) between PCM connector C1, underhood accessory wiring junction block and instrument cluster connector C1, terminal "E". Repair as necessary and recheck system operation. If circuit is okay, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
