Description & Operation

WARNING: Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM article. DO NOT apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.

Standard instrument cluster includes speedometer/odometer, tachometer, Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) gauge, fuel gauge, and indicator/warning lights. Speedometer/odometer is mechanically driven by a speedometer cable. A Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) attached to back of speedometer head supplies vehicle speed signal to Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

Indicator/warning lights are used for ABS and ABS ACTIVE (if equipped), AIR BAG, brake system, charging system, Daytime Running Lights (DRL), high beam, fasten seat belts, Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) CHECK ENGINE or SERVICE ENGINE SOON, oil pressure, turn signals, 4WD (if equipped), and POWER and OD/OFF (if equipped with 4-speed A/T). Indicator bulbs are serviced from rear of instrument cluster.
