Fuel Sending Unit Resistance Test

  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove fuel sending unit from fuel tank. Disconnect fuel sending unit connector. Using an ohmmeter, test resistance across fuel sending unit connector terminals No. 1 and 2. See Fig 1 . Go to next step.
  2. Move sending unit arm and ensure resistance is within specification. See FUEL SENDING UNIT RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS  table. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace fuel sending unit.
  3. Connect fuel sending unit connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Move sending unit arm. After a short delay, fuel gauge needle should move when sending unit arm is moved. If fuel gauge needle does not move, perform FUEL GAUGE & WIRING HARNESS OPERATIONAL TEST  . If fuel gauge needle moves, fuel sending unit is operating properly at this time.
