Fuel Level Warning Switch Operational Test

  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove fuel sending unit from fuel tank. Using a 12-volt battery, connect a jumper wire between negative battery terminal and fuel sending unit connector terminal No. 1. See Fig 1 . Go to next step.
  2. Connect a 12-volt 3.4-watt test light between positive battery terminal and fuel sending unit connector terminal No. 3. Test light should come on after a short time. If test light does not come on, replace fuel sending unit. If test light comes on, go to next step.
  3. Submerge fuel sending unit in gasoline or water. If test light does not come on, replace fuel sending unit. If test light comes on, fuel sending unit is operating properly at this time.
