Some Or All Instrument Cluster Illumination Lights Inoperative

  1. Operate turn signals. If turn signal indicator lights illuminate properly, go to next step. If turn signal indicator lights do not illuminate properly, go to step 6).
  2. Set headlight switch in PARK position. Set instrument panel dimmer switch to maximum brightness. If A/C-heater control illumination lights illuminate, go to next step. If A/C-heater control illumination lights do not illuminate, locate and repair problem in interior light dimming system. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  3. Turn headlight switch off. Disconnect instrument cluster Black 32-pin connector. Set headlight switch in PARK position. Set instrument panel dimmer switch to maximum brightness. Using DVOM, check voltage between instrument cluster harness connector terminal C5 (Gray wire) and ground. Check voltage between instrument cluster harness connector terminal C6 (Gray wire) and ground. If reading is 9-14 volts for both terminals, go to next step. If reading is not 9-14 volts for both terminals, go to step 5).
  4. Check illumination bulb(s) and bulb connection. Repair as necessary and recheck system operation. If bulbs and bulb connection are okay, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
  5. Repair poor connection or open in appropriate circuit No. 8 (Gray wire) between instrument cluster and splice S203 (located in instrument panel wiring harness behind instrument cluster, about 2" from instrument cluster breakout). Recheck system operation.
  6. Check for poor connection in circuit No. 150 (Black wire) between instrument cluster and ground. Repair as necessary and recheck system operation. If circuit is okay, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
