Brake Warning Indicator Always On

  1. If vehicle is not equipped with Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM), go to next step 3). If vehicle is equipped with EBCM, disconnect EBCM Light Gray 24-pin connector C1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If BRAKE warning indicator illuminates, go to next step. If BRAKE warning indicator does not illuminate, locate and repair problem in Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS). See ANTI-LOCK/TCS article in BRAKES section
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect brake fluid level indicator sensor connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If BRAKE warning indicator illuminates, go to step 4). If BRAKE warning indicator does not illuminate, go to next step.
  3. Replace brake fluid level indicator sensor. Recheck system operation.
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect parking brake switch connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If BRAKE warning indicator illuminates, go to step 6). If BRAKE warning indicator does not illuminate, go to next step.
  5. Replace parking brake switch. Recheck system operation.
  6. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Daytime Running Lights (DRL) control module Gray 10-pin connector C2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If BRAKE warning indicator illuminates, go to step 8). If BRAKE warning indicator does not illuminate, go to next step.
  7. Check for short to ground in circuit No. 1134 (Light Blue wire) between DRL control module connector C2 and parking brake switch. Repair as necessary and recheck system operation. If circuit is okay, replace DRL control module. Recheck system operation.
  8. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect ignition switch connector. If BRAKE warning indicator illuminates, go to step 10). If BRAKE warning indicator does not illuminate, go to next step.
  9. Replace ignition switch. See STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article. Recheck system operation.
  10. Check for short to ground in circuit No. 33 (Tan/White wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary and recheck system operation. If circuit is okay, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
