A Class II serial data communications system is used to allow various modules to communicate and share information with each other. If a module cannot respond to VCM, DTC is set.

Conditions for setting DTC:

VCM cannot communicate with EBCM for 15 seconds after having previously established communications with EBCM within that ignition cycle.
Ignition switch in CRANK position for 15 seconds and engine not rotating due to a starter or starting system malfunction, or clutch pedal not depressed on M/T vehicles.
