Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 31 other vehicles, including the 1999 Pontiac Montana, 1999 Oldsmobile Silhouette, 1999 Oldsmobile Bravada, 1999 GMC Yukon, and 1999 GMC Suburban. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: When replacing the power booster brake, make sure that the cruise control cable is not routed between the booster and the cowl. If the cable is damaged or pinched, it must be replaced. Failure to do this could result in personal injury.
NOTE: Proper stoplamp switch adjustment is essential. Improper stoplamp switch adjustment may cause brake drag, heat buildup and excessive brake lining wear.

  1. Position the brake booster to the cowl and the mounting plate.
    IMPORTANT: This is a prevailing torque type fastener. This fastener may be reused ONLY if:
    • The fastener and its counterpart are clean and free from rust.
    • The fastener develops 1.4 N.m (12 lb in) of torque (drag) against its counterpart prior to the fastener seating. If the fastener does not meet these criteria, REPLACE the fastener.
  2. Install the brake booster mounting nuts.

    Tighten  Tighten the brake booster mounting nuts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

  3. Install the master cylinder/ABS modulator.

  4. Install the brake booster push rod (2) to the brake pedal (1).
  5. Adjust the stoplamp switch. Refer to Stop Lamp Switch Adjustment.
  6. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
  7. Install the knee bolster.
  8. Install the left side instrument panel insulator.
  9. Install the transmission fluid filler tube.
  10. Install exhaust crossover.
  11. Install the EGR tube.
  12. Install the ABS hydraulic modulator/master cylinder.
  13. Install the fuel lines to the pipes and the vapor line.
  14. Install the heater inlet pipe.
  15. Install the throttle cables to the throttle body and the bracket.

  16. Install the vacuum hose to the check valve.
  17. Install the air cleaner and duct assembly.
  18. Enable SIR system. Refer to ACTIVATING SYSTEM (MONTANA, SILHOUETTE & VENTURE)
