Fuel Gauge Is Inaccurate

  1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Disconnect fuel level sensor on top of fuel tank. Using Tester (J-33431-B), connect Red tester lead to Purple wire terminal of fuel level sensor connector and other lead to ground. Set dial to zero ohms. Slowly rotate dial to 90 ohms. If fuel gauge does not respond, go to next step. If fuel gauge reads LOW at zero ohms, and FULL at 90 ohms, replace fuel level sensor.
  2. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector. Connect fused jumper wire between instrument cluster harness connector terminal No. 22 (Purple Wire) and battery power. See Figure. Using Tester (J-33431-B), connect Red tester lead to Purple wire terminal No. 30 of instrument cluster harness connector and other lead to ground. Set dial to zero ohms. Slowly rotate dial to 90 ohms. If fuel gauge does not respond, check instrument cluster printed circuit. If printed circuit is okay, replace fuel gauge. If fuel gauge reads LOW at zero ohms, and FULL at 90 ohms, repair Purple wire.
