Exhaust Manifold Replacement (Right)

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Remove the oil level indicator and tube.
2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.





3. Remove the right exhaust manifold pipe nuts.
4. Lower the vehicle.





5. Loosen the AIR hose clamps and remove the hose.





6. Remove the AIR pipe (with check valve), bolts and gasket from the right exhaust manifold.





7. Disconnect the coil harness main connector.





8. Remove the spark plug wires from the ignition coils.
9. Remove the spark plug wires from the spark plugs.





10. Remove the spark plugs.
11. Remove the valve rocker arm cover.





12. Disconnect the EGR valve connector.





13. Remove the EGR valve pipe.





14. Remove the exhaust manifold, bolts and gasket.
15. Discard the gasket.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE





1. Install a new gasket and the exhaust manifold.

IMPORTANT: Do not apply sealant to the first three threads of the bolts. Apply a 5 mm (0.20 inch) wide band of threadlock GM P/N 12345493 or equivalent to the threads of the exhaust manifold bolts.

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

2. Install the exhaust manifold bolts.
^ Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).





3. Install the EGR valve pipe.
^ Tighten the EGR valve pipe to exhaust manifold bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
^ Tighten the EGR valve pipe to cylinder head bolt to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
^ Tighten the EGR valve pipe to intake manifold bolt to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).





4. Connect the EGR valve connector.
5. Install the valve rocker arm cover.





6. Install the spark plugs.
^ Tighten the spark plugs to 15 Nm (12 ft. lbs.).





7. Install the spark plug wires to the spark plugs.
8. Install the spark plug wires to the ignition coils.





9. Connect the coil harness main connector.





10. Install the AIR pipe (with check valve), bolts and gasket to the right exhaust manifold.
^ Tighten the AIR pipe to exhaust manifold bolts to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).





11. Install the AIR hose and clamps.
12. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.





13. Install the right exhaust manifold pipe nuts.
^ Tighten the right exhaust manifold pipe nuts to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
14. Install the oil level indicator and tube.
15. Lower the vehicle.
