Circuit Operation

The Rear Compartment Lid Release Relay is controlled by the Body Control Module (BCM). The Rear Compartment Lid Release can be activated from within the vehicle by operating the Rear Compartment Lid Release Switch when the Ignition is in "ACCY" or "RUN" with the Park Brake set for Manual Transmission or in "PARK" or "NEUTRAL" position for Automatic Transmission.

Battery voltage is applied at all times to the normally open contacts of the Rear Compartment Lid Release Relay from PWR ACCY Fuse 7.

When the Rear Compartment Lid Release Switch is operated, the switch closes and ground is applied as an input to the BCM, which then passes a switched signal to the Rear Compartment Lid Release Relay Coil. On vehicles with Automatic Transmissions, the Rear Compartment Lid Release Relay Coil receives a ground through the Transmission Range Switch to G110, the Rear Compartment Lid Release Relay can only be energized with the Gear Selector in the "PARK" or "NEUTRAL" position. On vehicles with Manual Transmissions, the Rear Compartment Lid Release Relay Coil receives a ground through the Park Brake Switch when the Park Brake is "ON." For vehicles equipped with Daytime Running Lights (DRL), ground is provided through the Park Brake Switch and a Circuit Isolation Diode within the DRL Module.

When the Rear Compartment Lid Release Relay is energized and the relay contacts close, battery voltage is applied to the Rear Compartment Lid Release Actuator. The Rear Compartment Lid Release Actuator contains an Electronic Circuit Breaker (ECB). ECB resistance increases if motor is overloaded. Resistance returns to normal after voltage is removed from actuator terminals.
