Gauge Inoperative Or Inaccurate

  1. Disconnect Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor. Connect variable resistance tester between ECT sensor connector Dark Green wire terminal and ground. Set tester to 44 ohms. Turn ignition on.
  2. If engine coolant temperature gauge reads high (about 260°F), go to next step. If gauge does not read high, check all connectors and circuits for poor connection or short to voltage. If all circuits are okay, replace instrument cluster.
  3. Set tester to 1365 ohms. If gauge reads low (about 100°F), check ECT sensor connector Dark Green wire terminal for a poor connection or corrosion. If connection is okay, replace ECT sensor. If gauge does not read low, check connectors for good terminal contact and circuits for shorts to voltage. If all connectors and circuits are okay, replace instrument cluster.
