Rear Brake Shoes: Removal

  1. Release parking brake. Raise and support vehicle. Mark wheels in relation to wheel studs. Remove wheels. Mark drums in relation to wheel studs. Remove drums. If drums are easily removed, go to next step. If drums are difficult to remove, ensure parking brake is released. Back off parking brake cable adjuster. Remove drum.
  2. Remove return springs. See Figure . Remove hold-down springs and pins. Remove actuator link, actuator lever and parking brake lever. Remove parking brake strut and strut spring. Remove shoes. Disconnect parking brake cable from lever. Remove adjusting screw assembly and spring. Remove retaining ring, pin and parking brake lever from secondary shoe.
