Rear Suspension

REAR WHEEL BEARINGS AND/OR HUB

^ Tools Required:
- J 2619-01 Slide Hammer
- J 8092 Driver Handle
- J 22813-01 Axle Beating Remover
- J 23765 Axle Bearing Installer
- J 23771 Axle Oil Seal Installer

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT





1. Rear axle shaft.
2. Rear brake backing plate, if equipped.
3. Rear brake caliper anchor bracket and mounting plate, if equipped.
4. Rear wheel bearing seal (49) from rear axle housing (16) with a ply bar behind steel case of seal (49), being careful not to damage housing





5. Insert J 22813-01 into bore and position it behind rear wheel bearing (44) so tangs on tool engage bearing outer race.
6. Rear wheel bearing (44), using J 2619-01.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Lubricate new rear wheel bearing (44) with axle lubricant or SAE 80W-90 GL-5 gear lubricant or equivalent.





2. Rear wheel bearing (44) so that tool bottoms against shoulder in rear axle housing (16), using J 23765 and J 8092.
3. Lubricate sealing lips with axle lubricant or SAE 80W-90 GL-5 gear lubricant or equivalent.
4. Position rear wheel bearing seal (49) on J 23771 and direct seal (49) into housing bore.





5. Rear wheel bearing seal (49) into place, flush with axle tube.
6. Rear brake backing plate, if equipped.
7. Rear brake caliper anchor bracket and mounting plate, if equipped.
8. Rear axle shaft.

Inspect
- Operation of rear axle.
