CAUTION: When raising or supporting the engine for any reason, do not use a jack under the oil pan, crankshaft balancer, or any sheet metal. Due to small clearances between the oil pan and the oil pump screen, jacking against the oil pan may cause it to be bent against the pump screen, resulting in a damaged oil pickup unit. Jacking against the crankshaft balancer may also cause oil seal and/or crankshaft bearing damage. Always use a Universal Support Fixture along with Engine Support Adapters when raising or supporting the engine.
1. Measure engine movement at the engine mounts in order to check for damage to the rubber portions of the mount. Use the following procedure:
a. Apply the parking brake.
b. Start the engine.
c. Firmly apply primary brakes.
d. With an assistant observing engine movement, slightly load the engine in R (Reverse) and D (Drive). If the engine moves more than 24 mm (0.945 inches) from the at rest position, in either direction, check the engine mount attachment.
2. If the engine mount attachment is within specifications, replace the engine mount.
3. Remove the generator. See Starting and Charging.
4. Remove the ignition control module. See Powertrain Management.
5. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
6. Remove the exhaust catalytic converter pipe. See Exhaust System.
7. Remove the right side engine mount through bolt nuts.
8. Remove the left side engine mount through bolt nuts.
9. Remove the transmission oil cooler lines from the engine mount bracket, if necessary.
10. Remove the A/C compressor from the bracket. See Heating and Air Conditioning.
11. Position the A/C compressor forward. Do this in order to remove the engine mount through bolt without recovering the refrigerant.
12. Install the Universal Support Fixture and the Engine Support Adapters. Do this in order to remove the through bolt.
13. Remove the right engine mount through bolts.
14. Remove the left engine mount through bolts.
15. Raise the engine.
16. Remove the right engine mount bolts and the right engine mount.
17. Remove the left engine mount bolts and the left engine mount.
18. Remove the right engine mount bracket fasteners and the right engine mount bracket.
19. Remove the left engine mount bracket fasteners and the left engine mount bracket.
20. Inspect the rubber portions of the engine mount for damage.
