Rocker Arm Assembly: Service and Repair

Tools Required: J36660 Torque Angle Meter, or equivalent.

REMOVAL
1. Remove the rocker arm covers.





2. Remove the valve rocker arm bolts.

NOTE: Place the valve rocker arms and pushrods in a rack so they can be reinstalled in the same locations from which they were removed.

3. Remove the valve rocker arms.
4. Remove the retainer.
5. Remove the pushrods.

INSTALLATION

NOTE: When installing valve rocker arms and pushrods, coat the bearing surfaces with prelude GM P/N 12345501 or equivalent. Install these components in the locations from which they were removed.

1. Install the pushrods. Ensure that the pushrods seat in the lifter sockets.
2. Install the retainer.
3. Install the valve rocker arms.
4. Apply thread lock compound or equivalent to the bolt threads before installing.

CAUTION: When using the valve spring compressor, be careful not to scratch or gouge the valve stem.

5. Install the valve rocker arm bolts. Tighten the valve rocker arm bolts to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.). Use the valve spring compressor in order to rotate the bolts an additional 90 degrees.
6. Install the valve rocker arm covers.
