Burnishing Pads and Rotors

After the front brake pads have been replaced, it is very important that the new braking surface be broken in, or burnished. In addition, light corrosion on the rotors can also be removed by burnishing the new braking surface. This can be accomplished by making 20 stops from 48 km/h (30 mph), using medium to firm brake pedal pressure. Allow 0.8 km (0.5 mile) to 1.6 km (1.0 mile) between stops to avoid overheating the brakes.
