Intake Manifold (Upper): Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 24 other vehicles, including the 1997 Oldsmobile Bravada, 1997 GMC Sonoma, 1997 GMC Savana, 1997 GMC Safari, and 1997 GMC Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Install upper intake manifold gasket. See Fig 1. Install upper intake manifold. DO NOT pinch injector lines between upper and lower intake manifolds.

NOTE: Tighten upper intake manifold bolts to specification in a criss-cross pattern. Manufacturer does not provide a specific torque sequence.

Install the 2 corner studs first in order to help align the two halves. Install upper intake manifold bolts. Tighten first to 44 INCH lbs. (5 N.m) and then tighten to 89 INCH lbs. (10 N.m).
Install the purge solenoid and bracket. Install the ignition coil and bracket. Install the PCV hose at the upper intake manifold. Install the fuel lines and bracket at the rear of the lower intake manifold.
Install the throttle linkage and cruise control cable (if equipped). Install the wiring harness connectors and brackets.
Install the air filter assembly and intake duct. Connect the negative battery cable.
