Intermediate Shaft & Bearings: Installation

  1. Assemble Bearing Remover/Installer (J-33049). Place bearing onto remover/installer. Tap bearing into place, ensuring oil holes are indexed (on front bearing, oil holes are at 4 o'clock and 7 o'clock positions, as viewed from front of engine; on all other bearings, oil hole is at 4 o'clock position).
  2. Apply engine oil to intermediate shaft journals and chain sprocket. Install intermediate shaft and thrust plate. Replace "O" ring seal after installing chain sprocket.
  3. Install timing chain assembly. Refer to procedures in TIMING CHAIN & SPROCKETS . Install oil pump drive assembly. Refer to OIL PUMP DRIVE ASSEMBLY . To complete installation, reverse removal procedures. Tighten bolts and nuts to specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
