Parking Brake (Drum)

NOTE: If brakes have been serviced, adjust parking brake to prevent premature brake wear. Clean and lubricate threaded rod on parking brake adjuster before turning adjuster.
  1. Adjust rear brake shoes. See REAR BRAKE SHOES  under ADJUSTMENTS. Apply parking brake to 10 clicks (ratchets) and release. Repeat 5 times.
  2. To ensure parking brake pedal is fully released, turn ignition on. BRAKE indicator light will illuminate during BULB TEST and go out. If light goes off, go to next step. If light does not go off, operate pedal release lever on parking brake assembly and pull front parking brake cable downward. This should fully release pedal.
  3. Raise and support vehicle. Turn equalizer adjuster nut until, while rotating both rear wheels, until either wheel drags. Back off equalizer adjuster nut one full turn.
  4. Apply parking brake to 4 clicks. Wheels should not turn when trying to turn wheels forward by hand. Wheels should drag or not turn when trying to turn wheels in reverse direction by hand. Release parking brake. Ensure wheels rotate freely. Lower vehicle.
