Gauge Is Inaccurate (Commercial)

  1. Disconnect fuel level sensor. Turn ignition on. Connect Red lead of Gauge Tester (J 34029-A) to harness side of fuel level sensor connector Pink wire. Connect other Red test lead to ground. Adjust resistance dials to zero ohms, then to 90 ohms. Allow time for gauge to respond.
  2. If gauge indicates empty, then full, replace fuel level sensor. If fuel gauge does not respond correctly, disconnect instrument cluster connector. Measure resistance between instrument cluster terminal No. 30 (Purple wire) and ground. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open circuit in Purple wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster.
