Gauge Always Indicates Empty (Commercial)

Disconnect sending unit. Turn ignition on. If gauge indicates full, replace sending unit. If gauge indicates empty, backprobe test light between voltage and instrument cluster terminal No. 30 (Commercial - Purple wire) or B2 (Van - Purple wire). If test light does not come on, replace instrument cluster. If test light does come on, repair short to ground in Purple wire.
