Fuel Gauge Accuracy Test

  1. Disconnect fuel gauge sending unit wiring connector. Connect Red lead of Gauge Tester (J-33431) to Purple wire, and connect remaining lead to ground wire or ground.
  2. Turn ignition on. Adjust resistance dials of tester to zero ohms and then to 90 ohms. Ensure gauge reads empty then full. If gauge operates correctly, check Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) and fuel gauge sending unit ground wires for excessive resistance. If wiring is okay, replace fuel gauge sending unit.
  3. If gauge fails to operate correctly, check wires to instrument panel for excessive resistance and improper connection. If wiring and connections are okay, replace IPC.
