Audible Warning Device: Description and Operation

The Audible Warnings system sounds a chime to bring attention to one or more of several conditions. These conditions are (1) the lights are on and the Ignition Switch is set to "LOCK," "OFF" or "ACCY"; (2) the ignition key is in the Ignition Switch when the driver's door is open; and (3) the Seat Belt is unbuckled when the Ignition Switch is in "RUN," "BULB TEST" or "START."

Voltage is applied at all times through Fuse 11 to term "A6" to power the solid state Multi-function Alarm Module.


KEY-IN-IGNITION CHIME

Whenever the key is in the Ignition Switch and the Ignition Switch is in "LOCK," "OFF" or "ACCY" with the driver's door open, term "A7" of the module is grounded. This sounds the key-in-ignition chime.


FASTEN BELTS CHIME

With the Ignition Switch in "RUN," "BULB TEST" or START," voltage is applied through Fuse 9 to the Multi-function Alarm Module. With the driver's seat belt unbuckled, term "A4" of the module is grounded through the Seat Belt Switch. The Fasten Belts Indicator always goes on for about 5 seconds when the Ignition Switch is set to "RUN," "BULB TEST" or "START." The fasten belts chime, however, only sounds if the Seat Belt is unbuckled and the Ignition Switch is in "RUN," "BULB TEST" or "START."


LIGHTS-ON CHIME

When the Light Switch is in "HEAD" or "PARK," voltage is applied to the Multi-function Alarm Module term "AS." When the Ignition Switch is in "RUN," "BULB TEST" or "START," voltage is applied through Fuse 9 to the module. These two voltages are sensed and the lights-on chime is not sounded.

When the Ignition Switch is turned to "LOCK," "OFF" or "ACCY," Fuse 9 loses voltage and the Multifunction Alarm Module senses the change. If voltage is still available from the Light Switch, voltage from Fuse 11 is applied to sound the chime. The chime can be turned off by turning the Light Switch to the "OFF" setting. The module no longer senses voltage from the Light Switch, so the chime does not sound.
