Electronic Testing: Notes

The electronic synchronizer is used to provide 4WD engagement while vehicle is in motion. The system consists of a relay, electromagnetic clutch coil, front axle switch and an indicator light.

The clutch coil receives power through transfer case switch. See WIRING DIAGRAM  . When energized, the clutch coil provides synchronization. When shift is complete, front axle switch energizes transfer case relay. Relay is normally closed, when relay is energized, power is cut to clutch coil. When transfer case is shifted to 2WD, power to indicator light is cut. For specific part location see ELECTRONIC COMPONENT LOCATION TABLE  .
