Cover & Shift Fork Assembly: Reassembly
- Install shift rods in correct locations. Install reverse rod, 3rd-4th shift rod and 1st-2nd shift rod. See Figure or Figure . Place fork detent ball springs and balls in hole positions in cover. Place shift rods into cover, depress detent balls with a small punch, and push rod over balls, into cover.
- Starting with reverse shift rod, hold fork in position, and push rod through fork, into front support bore. Install NEW retaining pin in fork and rod. Position fork in neutral position.
- Hold 3rd-4th shift fork in position, and push rod through yoke, but not through front support bore. Place 2 interlock balls between reverse and 3rd-4th shift rods in cross bore of front support bore. Install interlock pin in 3rd-4th shift rod hole and grease to hold in place.
- Push 3rd-4th shift rod through fork and front support bore. Install NEW retaining pin in fork and rod. Position fork in neutral position. Place 2 interlock balls between 1st-2nd shift rod and 3rd-4th shift rod in cross bore of front support bore.
- Hold 1st-2nd shift fork in position, and push rod through front support bore until retainer hole and fork line up with hole in rod. Install NEW retainer pin in fork and rod. Position fork in neutral position. Apply sealant to NEW plugs and install plugs into cover.
