Lower Control Arm: Removal

  1. Remove coil spring. See COIL SPRINGS  in this article. Support inboard end of control arm. Remove cotter pin from lower ball joint stud, then loosen ball joint stud nut one turn.
  2. Using Ball Joint Separator (J-23742 ), position large cupped end of separator over upper ball stud nut and pilot threaded end of tool onto lower ball stud. See Figure .
  3. Extend bolt of ball joint separator to separate ball stud from steering knuckle. Remove ball joint separator and stud nut. Remove control arm-to-frame nuts. Remove control arm.
