Rear Axle Hub Bearings & Oil Seal (Full-Floating Axle): Installation
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 35 other vehicles, including the 1992 Pontiac Trans Sport, 1992 Oldsmobile Silhouette, 1992 Oldsmobile Bravada, 1992 GMC Yukon, and 1992 GMC Vandura Special. - Clean and pack bearings with Wheel Bearing Lubricant (1051344). Using handle and Bearing Race Installer (J-8608), drive outer wheel bearing race into hub from inboard side of hub (ensure chamfered edge of bearing race installer is facing upward so that it does not contact bearing race).
- Install retaining ring on inboard side of outer bearing race. Turn hub and rotor assembly inboard side down. Using Outer Bearing Race Remover/Installer (J-24426), seat outer bearing race against retaining ring.
- Using Inner Bearing Race Remover/Installer (J-24427), drive inner bearing race into hub from inboard side of hub. Install inner bearing. Install new oil seal using Axle Shaft Seal Installer (J-24428).
- To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. To adjust wheel bearings, follow REAR BRAKE ROTOR installation procedure under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION .
- Clean and pack bearings with Wheel Bearing Lubricant (1051344). Using handle and Bearing Race Installer (J-8608), drive outer wheel bearing race into hub from inboard side of hub (ensure chamfered edge of bearing race installer is facing upward so it does not contact bearing race). See Figure.
- Install retaining ring on inboard side of outer bearing race. Turn hub and rotor assembly inboard side down. Using Outer Bearing Race Remover/Installer (J-24426), seat outer bearing race against retaining ring.
- Using Inner Bearing Race Remover/Installer (J-24427), drive inner bearing race into hub from inboard side of hub. Install inner bearing. Install new oil seal using Axle Shaft Seal Installer (J-24428).
- To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. To adjust wheel bearing, follow REAR BRAKE DRUM installation procedure under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION .
